Trying something new..

I’ve wanted to put out a fall Garden for some years now and I’ve finally decided to get with it. Found some Broccoli and red Cabbage plants at the plant farm and put them in the ground. I also put out some Leek starts from the farm but I’m not sure Leek’s qualify for a fall crop. But, what the hell? It’s worth the 89 cent gamble. Yellow onion starts went into the ground as well as radishes and Kale.

Kale seeds are about like radish seed. Tiny, round specks that I can barely see. I had to get down on my knees to plant them. Of course, I had to get down on my knees to plant the other stuff as well. The damn seeds kept falling through my worn, arthritic fingers so I’m afraid my row will not be very straight. I’ve aways felt that crooked garden rows are the mark of a lazy gardener but am taking a much more liberal view of crooked rows in my old age.
I’m looking forward to soups made from Kale and Leeks. (I’m assuming the plural of Kale is…. well, Kale.) Kale Soup, you say? Our friend, Judy, turned up her nose at the suggestion. I probably would have done so, as well, had it not been for the fact that my son, Joe and his wife, Michele, made us some delicious Kale soup on one of our trips to Seattle.
I still have some salad lettuce to go in the ground. When I went to get lettuce seed, I was not aware of how many different lettuces there are. I hope I picked a good one.
I’m going to plant Cauliflower if I can convince Susie that it won’t be full of worms. My guardian angel tells me “Good Luck with that, dumbass..”
